Developed by the Check Your GovernmentExternal link project that joins the Technology Transfer Research Group and the Michael-Stifel-Center for Data-Driven ScienceExternal link in Jena, the Fraunhofer Institute for International Managenment and Knowledge EconomyExternal link in Leipzig and the news outlet DER TAGESPIEGELExternal link in Berlin and funded by the Volkswagen FoundationExternal link, the new platform aims to open up legislative processes in the German Bundestag to social scientists, journalists and the general public.

CYGAR collects raw data from open sources such as social media, the DIPExternal link or news feeds, preprocesses and integrates them into a coherent data base and provides analytical tools for users. It is intended to allow users to develop their own analytical applications and prototyping them using CYGAR as their main data source. The platform is endowed with a highly flexible API framework that allows users to plug in their own analytical tools and conduct customised analyses at an industrial scale. CYGAR currently drives the Map of LobbyistsExternal link, while other applications are already under development.
